Children under fourteen, school pupils in Austria, anyone with a school certificate in Geschichte und Sozialkunde at the right level and people whose health rules it out. The law lists each case, and a few special routes are exempt too.

Vienna defines secondary schools as schools from the fifth school year: Hauptschule, Mittelschule, Polytechnische Schule and the middle and higher vocational and academic schools. It adds that a Berufsschule is not a secondary school.
For the school certificate route, what matters is a completed subject called Geschichte und Sozialkunde at the stated level. Bring the certificate to your office. Whether yours qualifies is the office's decision.
The law requires an amtsärztliches Gutachten, a report by an official doctor. Vorarlberg describes the practice: you hand in a specialist's certificate and the office then has it checked by the official doctor.
The ground is a lasting condition. A temporary illness on the day is a matter of rearranging the date, not of exemption.
The Geschichte und Sozialkunde certificate replaces the history and democracy proof only. You still need German at B1, the residence period, a secure livelihood and a clean record. The under 14, school pupil and health grounds cover the German proof as well, but every other condition stays.
If you think you qualify, raise it when you apply. The office decides.Not if you can show a certificate in Geschichte und Sozialkunde at least at the fourth class Hauptschule level. Vienna lists this route and says it applies to adults too.
The law names the Austrian curriculum level. None of the official pages we checked says a foreign certificate counts, so ask your office.
A short illness is not an exemption. Contact your office before the date: the regulation lets it agree a different date with you, and Vienna asks you to book a new one.
